Building a Life Where We Only Do What We Want to in Three Steps

Life should not be all about work.

And even when we work, we don’t have to do work that we don’t want to.

But that is now how it is for most of us.

We often work on what we have to.

And, it seems forced so there is no joy.

Here is how we can bring joy and choice into our lives again.

Step 1. Find Out What You Want to Do

You may say that you know what you want to do.

If you do then the next question you have to ask if you are really spending your days and weeks working on things you want to do.

More often than not, people spend only a fraction of their time on what they want to, and a lot more time on ‘what they have to do’

If you are in the same zone, then go deeper and list everything you do on a usual day. And put it under three categories: 1) want to 2) have to 3) I should not do

Step 2. Stop Doing What You Should Not Do

Give yourself 1-2 months for this transition.

What are the things that you should not do. Things that do not help you any way and in some ways pull you down because they take time away from you that you can invest in what you want to do.

And for this reason, freeing your time, it is very important to have this list and delete it from your life.

Step 3. Delegate or Automate Everything That You Don’t Want to Do

You can start delegating as soon as you identify what you don’t want to do. Depending on how much is on your plate, give yourself anywhere between 2-6 or even 12 months to make this transition.

And after you implement this, and have a lot of free time on your hands, know that you don’t have to fill it all with work again. Instead invest some of it with and on what you care about. And, for the rest, enjoy free time, because not everyone has it 🙂
