For good things to happen in life, you need to create space in your mind for them first.
Legend has it that JK Rowling got the “fully formed” idea for Harry Potter while she was on a four-hour-delayed train trip from Manchester to London, in 1990.
Chances are that something like this won’t happen with most of us. You can still try by clearing out space in your head for creativity and open yourself to new possibilities.
Start by observing your thoughts.
Meditation a beautiful way to do this.
Sit to meditate and observe your breath. When you do that your mind will want to be someplace else. Don’t fight the mind, just see where it takes you. It will wander. It can think about worry, a fear, a dream or something good that has happened in the past.
Don’t go along. Just see.
Pause for a couple of times a day, over several days and see the recurring thoughts in your mind.
By observing our thoughts, you come face to face with your emotions. Don’t shun them. Use the message they are giving and use it for your own good.
If there is a pain due to something that did not work out, then reflect on that pain. Note what caused it and fix it when you do it the next time.
If you have experienced loss and your emotions are related to it then pray for peace and serenity in the tough times.
If some worry is nagging you, realize that most of our fears and worries are about something that might happen. It is illogical if you think about it.
Robert Downey, Jr. once said, “… worrying is like praying for what you don’t want to happen.”
My friend Amber Rae wrote about this in her book Wonder Over Worry.
“WONDER is what we’re born with. WORRY is what we learn… You don’t have to be held back by Worry when Wonder awaits you every moment of every day.”
Amber Rae
When you choose wonder you open yourself to possibilities.
I say this knowing well that life is not all rosy and good. But we got to play the hand we are dealt with and make the best of it.
So, after you are done with a mind shift and creating space in your head, put a plan in place to make whatever you want happen.
Plan and Prepare For Good Things To Happen
By planning you remove most uncertainties. You know what to do. You are liberated.
It does not hurt to think of ways how something could go wrong or think of the weakest link. Take it into account while you make your plan.
Gather all or what you need for good things to happen. Bring your best energies, relationships, and stuff to the table.
And, don’t forget to put what you plan into action.
Practice until it hurts and even after that.
If you want to be a good parent then read up and more importantly observe and ask someone who you think is a model parent.
If you want to be a good speaker, you do the same. You can’t prepare well in a void, so put yourself to test, the small ones, first.
There it is. A clear plan to make good things happen in your life.
What are you gonna do about it?
