Find a mould that will fit you in or better make a new mould.
Don’t measure your success by comparing yourself with those who chose another path.
And, don’t let somebody else’s success doubt your choice of a path in life.
When in doubt look for those who have blazed the trail in the space you have chosen for yourself.
For example, if you are a poet who wants to learn and leverage social media to grow your tribe then don’t follow the path of a business author or marketer.
Find Your Tribe
So who are those who are the ones who have done well as poets, and have leveraged social media to their advantage?
And, you will find names like Nayyirah Waheed, Nikita Gill, and Rupi Kaur.
And there are many more who are good and those you can follow and learn from.
Many of them built their community on the back of their work and then built a career out of it.
Check out the communities where people like you (poets in this case) hangout. Learn from them and build connections.
Know That Doing What You Want to Do Is Your Prize
Not everyone gets to do what they want to do.
If you can do that consider yourself blessed.
And in the process you build a community around it that’s a bonus.
To attract the right community you need to choose the right platform. For visual contempt and also for poets Instagram is a great platform. Choose what is right for you, depending on what you do.
Whichever platform you choose, choose one because you need a base to create your body of work.
Don’t Forget Why You Do What You Do
Creators create because they enjoy the act and process of creating and the experiences along the way.
So, don’t make it your job or a chore and do it in a way that you enjoy it.
More so because there’s so much mundane work anyway.
Happy exploring and creating a space for yourself that will be happy to have you.
