Creator’s Dilemma and How to Get Over It

Are you a professional creator?

Or are you using digital media to grow your brand?

And have you been in two minds about choosing one platform over the other for growing your brand?

Then this post may help.

Where to Focus Your Creative Energies When Starting Out

Know what’s best. Being everywhere (active on every platform) is the best.

Then, think of what is doable and start by doing that.

Are you already active on Instagram? Then increase the quality and frequency of your posts there.

Do you already blog? Then make your posts in-depth. Already doing in-depth posts then work on promoting them.

Already posting words on your profiles. Now, also post pictures. Already doing words and pictures, add video to the mix.

Think Distribution Over Ownership

But don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

What if you gather 100,000 subscribers on YouTube suspends your account. Not that it’ll happen to you but it’s a possibility.

Mike Tyson said it best:

Everyone has a plan ’till they get punched in the mouth.

So, safeguard yourself against the risk.

How?

As soon as you build credibility and following on a platform, use it to grow your brand on other platforms.

While (or soon after) you get the early traction, build a direct connection with your audience that is not dependent on third-party platforms. Start by connecting with them on emails and phone (via messaging) and later move a part of that audience to the modern version of good old forums. Discourse is a good platform to do that.

Don’t ditch your domain. As you are no longer worried about obscurity, publishing some content on your domain first before you republish it elsewhere.

And, don’t underestimate the power of speed. Go as fast as you can. There is power in it.
