Why you should write every day

writingWriting is simple.

So simple that anyone can become a writer.

You can write, absolutely. May be you already write with some degree of proficiency and success. If you want to pursue writing professionally or want to become good at it then it makes sense to write daily. There are enough reasons — I have listed 6 benefits of writing every day below.

1. Form a good habit.

Good habits are hard to form. Doing something in a row for 30 days is a good way to get started with forming good habits. Write 1000 words or 2 hours every day for 30 days; and soon writing will not be such a chore.

2. Become more disciplined.

Writing calls for being disciplined. Amidst chaos, work pressures and other responsibilities — you need to be really disciplined to write daily. This discipline when achieved will create a positive impact in other areas of your life as well.

3. Rapid learning.

If you were sleeping under a rock when social media was fast becoming a part of our lives, then all is not lost. Start writing about it (preferably online) — and soon you will know enough to use it for your business or make informed references during discussions.

You need to read and learn on a regular basis when you choose to write daily. Even if you want to know more about ancient martial arts like Kalaripayatu — it still works. Of course it helps to practice but writing daily is good starting point.

4. Build a portfolio fast.

Resume is a basic tool to showcase your career progress. LinkedIn does more. In addition it also shows social proof — in form or connections and recommendations. In 21st century — a resume or LinkedIn profile is not enough to differentiate. You need a portfolio.

A popular myth is that a portfolio is meant for designers or artists. It is not true. You can build a portfolio even as a marketer or a financial expert. Marketers can write about brands and products and showcase their unique views. Financial experts can do the same in their field. Check out what Timothy Skyes, Ramit Sethi or Dave Ramsay, are doing.

Building a portfolio takes times. Earlier you start better it is. Daily writing is good way to build a portfolio fast. This way what would have taken you years — can be built in months.

5. Know yourself better.

Writing is a great for soul searching. When you do it on a daily basis — you write about what you really love. It is difficult (almost impossible) to write daily if you do not care about it. So write daily to find your true passions and purpose — whether you choose to share it with the world or not, is up to you.

6. Gain traffic.

If you are a (wannabe) blogger — it is best to write daily as it helps drive more traffic; because search engines love fresh content. Daily blogging is also a great way to build anticipation and grow your community of readers

Try it. Who knows you will come to love it and reap benefits. It is a path available to all of use but only few choose to tread. Why? Because it takes effort.

Do you think effort is worth it?

Wonderful blog! Do you have any recommendations for aspiring
writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any recommendations? Thank you!
