Leonardo da Vinci sent the following letter to Ludovico Sforza, the ruler of Milan, in 1482:
Notice how he does not tell who he is. Instead, he shared what he could do.
His talent and his resume got him the patronage of powerful people such as Medici, founder of House of Medici, Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan from 1494, Cesare Borgia, an Italian politician, and King Francis I of France.
One can use the same approach to win a client or get a coveted job, most definitely an interview or an opportunity to pitch.
So, when writing to a potential customer or a potential employer, answer their “What’s in it for them?”, by sharing what can you do for them.
